The Learning Mechanism

Learning develops by transferring information, usually through communication processes.

An instructor teaches through the deliberate, purposeful sharing of information, experiences, and insights. The objective of teaching is to advance learners, which includes gaining knowledge while helping them develop understanding and personal growth.

Teaching does not always require direct information transmission, it also involves establishing conditions that allow learning to happen naturally.

This is known as incidental learning, which occurs when learners obtain knowledge and insights by experiencing their environment, interacting with it, or exploring it. Although instructors cannot control exactly what’s learned in each moment, they can create specific environmental conditions to facilitate student learning.

Like a gardener doesn’t force the plant to grow—but they prepare the soil, provide sunlight, and maintain regular watering. In the same way, an instructor can create the conditions for learning to thrive.

In our instructor courses, we teach two essential sets of skills:

We also emphasize the importance of mindful communication and encourage instructors to consider both sides of the coin. Words from good intentions can sometimes produce results that go beyond the instructor’s intentions. For example, praising a student by saying, “You’re so smart,” may seem positive, but it may promote a fixed mindset that makes children feel pressure to constantly appear clever rather than focusing on their growth and efforts.

Our instructor’s course helps instructors recognize the impact of their communication while teaching them effective methods to improve learning outcomes and develop healthy mindsets for children’s growth.
